Maarten van Dorp

light design and technical pre-production

Graduated in Design & Technology at the Amsterdam University of Arts in 2006. Now I have over 15 years of experience in light design and as light technician, working with national and international companies. I distinguish myself by knowing that this job is not only about the technical side: communication, creativity and organisation equally important in my opinion. As a designer and as technician, I am always trying to move my perspective to that of the choreographers / makers: translating their view into light designs and technical materials.

Besides designing I am also working as a technical producer. Preparing and organising all that is needed for a tour in the Netherlands or abroad. I work mostly as technical producer for TOTheater, working with foreign companies that are doing a (short) tour in the Netherlands / Belgium. My wide experience in touring abroad forms a great base to adapt, translate and overcome cultural differences and different styles of working.

My hart and soul lays mainly in modern dance and music theatre. But I am aiming to keep my orientation as wide as possible. So far I have been working with: NDT, Hofesh Shechter Company, Batsheva, Akram Kahn, Wang Ramirez, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Nederlands Kamerkoor, Capetown Opera, Yamato, Percossa en Doornroosje.

Technical skills:

  •  Experienced GrandMA operator (I have a GrandMA2 light and OnPC)
  •  Qlab in combination with all sorts of show control systems.
  •  Experience in Autocad and Inventor
  •  3d parts print service
  •  Programmer and network engineer
